SUMMARY:KAMP Songspiel: An Orchestral Preview
DESCRIPTION:An orchestral preview of a new Musical by Jamie Bradley and Garry Williams\nFrom 1933 until the end of the Second World War\, the Third Reich arrested homosexual men and imprisoned them in concentration camps. Crammed into isolation barracks\, these men suffered back-breaking work and torture beyond imagination. Some of these men sought solace by secretly producing weekly musical reviews under the noses of the S.S. \nBradley & Williams’ new darkly comedic musical KAMP tells the story of a small group of these brave artists\, who struggled to escape the horrors of the day by expressing themselves through their music. From the darkness\, they used their wit and camp to find light. \nThe Nazis hated them because they were gay… but that’s what saved them\nKAMP Songspiel: An Orchestral Preview will highlight some of the original songs of this new musical and introduce the audience to the characters and their lives in the “Pink Barrack” as they plan and rehearse their own cabaret. \nThe Songspiel will feature a number of queer performers from the Halifax theatre community. The KAMP Cabaret Band will include musicians from the Halifax Music Co-Op\, under the Musical Direction of John Bogardus. \n1 ticket = 3 events!\nA ticket to KAMP Songspiel gives you admission to two separate stage readings of the play presented during the STAGES Theatre Festival on May 16th and 27th! \nHow the ‘Two Readings’ thing works\nThe play receives a first reading in week one of the STAGES Theatre Festival\, then a second reading in week two after work has been done. \nSession 1 will feature a staged-reading of this new work in-development followed by a moderated feedback session with the audience.  Over the course of ten days\, the playwrights will rework the piece (heeding OR ignoring the audience’s comments!) for a reading to take place the following week. \nOne ticket allows audience members access to both Session 1 and 2\, in addition to the Songspiel! \nVisit the STAGES Theatre Festival website for details. \n  \n  \n  \nBUY TICKETS ONLINE\n \n  \nPresented in partnership with the Halifax Music Co-op and Eastern Front Theatre \n \n  \nApril 28th is the National Day of Mourning to pay tribute to those who have died or been injured in the workplace.
